Planning A Last Minute Picnic

Everybody enjoys going on a picnic during the summer. Nothing beats eating outside with the sun beaming on your face. However once the weather starts turning from the lovely warm sunny days to the slightly duller, wet and windy days, it doesn't mean that you can not have a picnic anymore. The key is to be prepared for the day when it isn't raining the weather looks better. We will cover some of the points below so that you are ready to snatch away those last few days of summer with a tasty outdoor treat.

Picnic Hampers - The easiest way to ensure you have the food and drink ready is to either buy non perishable picnic hampers, or alternatively make your own hampers with food which will last without being kept in the fridge. The preparation of the food is the part that takes up most of the time. If you do not have the food ready to go, by the time you have done it, the weather will have changed and be raining again!

While you would take chilled drinks in a cool bag during the summer, you will want to ensure you have a couple of thermos flasks available ready to be filled with a hot drink of your choice. You can also use the very same thermos flasks in the summer to keep cold drinks cool!

Picnic Accessories - Having a picnic in towards the start of the end of the year is totally different to having a picnic in the summer. For a start, in the summer you would normally sit on the floor. Unless you want to sit on wet grass or sand, you will not be able to do this. A large waterproof picnic blanket will do the job of keeping you dry while you sit on the floor. Alternatively if you do not want to sit on the floor you could buy a couple of small camping stools and a table to go with them which fold up really small so they can be stored in the car. This then gets you off the floor and also gives you a nice dry, stable surface to put your picnic on.

Extra Clothing - While you are still snatching the last few days of the summer, it will still not be as warm as earlier in the year so you need to ensure that you have the extra clothing required. Make sure that you have at least a light jacket packed, and depending how likely the weather is to change, a set of waterproofs. These can be kept in the car most of the year and not just used for picnics, but also for if you break down or just forget to take a coat or jacket out with you.

You should try and keep everything packed into picnic hampers so that as soon as you see a glimpse of sun you can get outside and enjoy it, rather than spending the time getting everything together to find out you missed the sun.
